NOTE: If the letters in the column underneath the heading HAPLOGROUP are colored GREEN, it has been SNP tested or confirmed. If they are colored RED, it is an estimate or projection by FTDNA. |
NOTE:The markers to the right, in red, have shown a faster mutation rate than the average, therefore, if your mutations are in these markers, your match may be closer than if the mutations are in the black markers. |

NOTE 1: Test kit numbers with an "N" prefix are transfer project members from the National Geographic Project. Test kit numbers with a "B" prefix are transfer members from other testing services. Transfer members with blank marker values did not have blank marker tested.
NOTE 2: Ancestor charts should be submitted to the Hamrick project administrator by each test subject, in a text or Microsoft Word file, or typed in an email, approximately a single page, in a format suggested by the following two examples from the Bridges family project: ancestor chart example one ; or ancestor chart example two . Additional notes, such as name of wife, marriage date, b. and d. dates of husband and wife, burial places, or documentation such as record book and page number of special or unusual facts, can also be added.
NOTE 3: Test subjects are requested to keep their contact information of email address, surface mail address and telephone number on their personal page at FamilyTreeDNA updated with their most current addresses.
NOTE 4: All Group 1 test subjects appear to have a proven, or reasonable claim of descent from Patrick Hamrick, Sr. who was of adult age in the Northern Neck of Virginia prior to 1718, and who d. just prior to April 2, 1764 in Prince William Co., VA. Patrick Hamrick, Jr. was executor of his father's will (now lost) and James Bridges was security for the executor. Patrick's son Robert d. 1757, leaving widow Elizabeth Hamrick for whom James Bridges was also security for at Daniel Payne's store in Dumfries, VA, for the time period from 1758 until at least 1763, for purchases of general merchandise. By the 1770s Elizabeth Hamrick's son Samuel had moved to western Granville Co., NC and owned land in Granville Co. beside James Bridges. Then Samuel Hamrick moved west (with several Bridges men) and was listed in the 1790 Rutherford Co., NC census. For the earliest Group 1 Hamrick ancestor listed on this results page, Patrick's sons or grandsons will be listed as the earliest in order to illustrate second and third generation family groupings.
NOTE 5: The calculated marker values in Group 1 for the "common ancestor" are shown above in the chart based on the most frequently appearing value for each marker. This calculation is subject to slight change, based on future tests to be reported. The value of DYS460 marker number 26 is probably either 11 or 12, because four tests report a value of 11, and three other tests report a value of 12, so additional tests are needed to confirm the most likely value of marker 26 in the "common ancestor".
NOTE 6: The above test number 42298, which is for the surname of Ainmhire or O'Hainmhire or Hanberry, is not in modern times the same surname as Hamrick or Hambrick. Some researchers question if the Ainmhire name (over a period of centuries) could have become Hanberry and /or Hamrick. The O'Hainmhire or Hanberry name or family does not have a documented, or paper trail, connection to the Hamrick or Hambrick surnamed family of colonial Virginia. The comparison of Y-DNA marker values between test 42298 and Group 1: test 1107 is a genetic distance match of 59/67 (mismatch of 8); and test 22039 is 60/67 (mismatch of 7); and test 11037 is 62/67 (mismatch of 5); and 42298 compared with the calculated Hamrick "common ancestor" shows marker matching of 10/12; 22/25; 32/37; and 61/67 (mismatch of 6). The Y-DNA marker results comparison of test 42298 to the Hamrick "common ancestor" is reasonably close, but unless the surnames can be proven to be the same, or a paper trail linking the two different families can be found, then this match is probably random, and is probably not a family match. This test subject has submitted a note which has been added to his ancestor chart.
NOTE 7: Group 1 Hamrick / Hambrick surnamed males have been Y-DNA tested in this project at the 67 marker level, and 67 marker results from other test subjects in other projects are reported by the FTDNA lab as "matching" (near matches within a reasonable genetic distance) with these Hamrick Group 1 test subjects. The other "near matches" include the other surnames of: Schaber, Sinclair, Ward, Webb, Melvin, Gallagher, Curry, MacGee, Donnelly, and Blaney. These ten other surnames have not yet been researched, to the same extent as Hanberry, for a potential Hamrick connection. Unless paper trail research connections to Hamrick are found, it is probable that all of these other reported "near matches" are also random matches.
NOTE 8: Group 1 Confirmed Haplogroup: R1b1a2a1a1b4b. Shorthand: R-M222. Deep Clade SNP Test Results Reported: P25+ M343+ M269+ M222+ M207+ M173+ SRY2627- P66- M73- M65- M37- M18- M160- M153- M126-. The SNP marker results flow on the FTDNA haplotree chart in the following sequence: M207+, M173+, M343+, P25+, P297^, M269+, L23^, L150^, L51^, (---^), P312^, L21^, and terminates with M222+. The + indicates a tested positive marker, and ^ indicates a projected positive marker.
NOTE 9: Y-DNA Haplotree & SNPs: Long time customers of Family Tree DNA have seen the YCC-tree of Homo Sapiens evolve over the past several years as new SNPs have been discovered. Sometimes these new SNPs cause a substantial change in the “longhand” explanation of your terminal Haplogroup. Because of this confusion, we introduced a shorthand version a few years ago that lists the branch of the tree and your terminal SNP, such as in Hamrick Group 1 above, the terminal SNP is R-M222, in lieu of longhand R1b1a2. Therefore, in the very near term, Family Tree DNA will discontinue showing the current “longhand” on the tree and we will focus all of our discussions around your terminal defining SNP.
